Municipal Currencies as Care Infrastructures

Författare

  • Ester Barinaga

Summary, in English

Building on the case of three municipal currencies (in Brazil, Spain and Belgium), the policy brief argues municipal currencies can be considered transversal care
infrastructures because, depending on their design and governance, they
facilitate the visualization and circulation of economic, social and
environmental value in ways that directly address community needs, enhance
social welfare, promote environmental sustainability, and foster active citizen
participation, thereby contributing to building a more resilient and equitable
local ecosystem.
